LEBANON – The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, receives a USD 500,000 contribution from the Republic of Korea to provide life-saving assistance to vulnerable Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
Lebanon continues to suffer from a deep socioeconomic crisis, undermining the subsistence capacity of already vulnerable refugees and Lebanese. Individuals and families are falling deeper into poverty due to high inflation, rising food prices, and loss of income.
The 2022 Vulnerability Assessment of Syrian Refugees (VASyR) found that 90 per cent of households need humanitarian assistance to survive. As the crisis prolongs, refugees are increasingly struggling to pay for the basic life essentials including rent, food, health care, and successive small amounts are accumulating to become burdens that increase their vulnerabilities.
With thanks to donors, such as the Republic of Korea who recently contributed an amount of USD 500,000, UNHCR can assist vulnerable Syrian families in meeting their basic needs.
Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, the Republic of Korea has supported the Syria Situation with a total of USD 11.4 million, and specifically the Lebanon operation with USD 1 million.
UNHCR is extremely grateful for the continuous support from all its donors that enables the operation to provide protection and assistance to the most in need in Lebanon.
