The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Kuwaiti Association for Needy Families have signed a letter of intent aimed at empowering needy families. The agreement was signed by Nisreen Rubaian, the UNHCR representative to the State of Kuwait, and Bader Al-Mubarak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Association for Needy Families, at the United Nations House in Kuwait.
This cooperation is the first of its kind between UNHCR and the Kuwaiti Association for Needy Families. It focuses on enabling people of concern to UNHCR in Kuwait to join the association’s assistance programs through prepaid cards, which provide a wide range of options and ensure effective delivery of assistance. The letter of intent also allows young men and women to participate in skills development training, which will improve their employment opportunities and help them secure their basic needs.
The signing ceremony, held at the United Nations House in Kuwait, symbolizes strategic cooperation by strengthening humanitarian efforts locally. This partnership reflects the generous spirit and dedication to humanitarian initiatives inherent in the Kuwaiti people.
During the signing ceremony, Bader Al-Mubarak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Association for Needy Families, spoke about the importance of the agreement, saying: “This letter of intent aims to discuss all aspects that facilitate our initiatives at the Kuwaiti Association for Needy Families, aligning with the Commission’s objectives to empower numerous individuals and families to achieve a decent life. This will be accomplished through training programs and enhancing their professional skills in compliance with the laws of the State of Kuwait. In this regard, Al-Mubarak emphasized that the longstanding partnership between the State of Kuwait, the United Nations, and its agencies has collaboratively fostered global humanitarian efforts for decades. This collaboration led the United Nations to designate Kuwait as a hub for humanitarian activities and the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad as a leader of humanitarian efforts. Stemming from this robust relationship, our current cooperation embarks on a new phase, continuing in the same spirit of alignment with the governmental policies of the State of Kuwait.”
Ms. Nisreen Rubaian, UNHCR’s Representative in Kuwait, also shared her insights on the partnership, commenting: “This signing comes in the month in which we commemorate World Refugee Day on the twentieth of June of each year under the theme for a world where refugees are welcomed.
Today represents a milestone in our ongoing efforts to improve the lives of people of concern to UNHCR. This partnership not only meets the immediate needs of families in need but also lays the foundation for empowering young men and women by providing them with the skills and resources necessary to build a better and sustainable future for themselves and their families.”
Community partnerships with Kuwaiti charities of this kind are a pivotal factor in enabling UNHCR to implement its programs and meet urgent needs.
