UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in collaboration with Kuwaiti artist Humood Alkhudher, has launched a song titled ‘Ikhtiary’ (My Choice), which aims to highlight the suffering of refugees and forcibly displaced people who are resilient in the face of their daily challenges.
Produced by Prismic Media, Ikhtiary draws the world’s attention towards the importance of supporting refugees and forcibly displaced people with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, and to help provide them with their basic needs such as water, food, medicine and shelter.
Speaking on this collaboration, Houssam Chahine, UNHCR Chief of Private Sector Partnerships in MENA, stated: “We are excited for this cooperation with long-time UNHCR supporter and advocate of displaced people worldwide, Humood Alkhudher, and the launch of “Ikhtiary” with such a strong humanitarian message, further supporting our efforts at UNHCR in raising awareness of the plight of refugees and displaced persons. The song is being launched to coincide with the start of UNHCR’s yearly global Ramadan campaign, #EveryGiftCounts, with the campaign providing aid to refugee and internally displace families in more than 14 countries”.
UNHCR further invites individuals to participate in its Ramadan campaign and support its efforts in addressing the needs of displaced populations, through the #EveryGiftCounts campaign, which enables individuals to give Sadaqah and Zakat donations through the Refugee Zakat Fund platforms and app.
For his part, on the occasion of releasing his song in cooperation with UNHCR, Humood Alkhudher, said: “The goal of the song Ikhtiary is noble and humane, as it reminds people that refugees and internally displaced people are forced by circumstances to live through daily struggles and obstacles, and are individuals with dreams, hopes and ambitions. They live with determination to face the incredibly harsh challenges they face.”
The song is an anthem for the unwavering hope and fortitude of 84 million forcefully displaced people around the world, and their trust in human kindness and empathy.
Ikhtiary has been written and composed by Seif Fadel, with music production by Hamza Namira. You can watch Ikhtiary here.
