UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, expresses profound grief and sorrow over the tragic death of a 13-year old refugee boy in a traffic accident in front of Azraq Camp on Wednesday evening. The boy had grown up in the camp after his family fled Syria several years ago.
UNHCR has reached out to the family to offer psycho-social support to relatives of the deceased, to accompany them through the unspeakable pain and emotional burden this incident has put on them.
We all in UNHCR in Jordan extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the boy who lost his life when he was run over by a vehicle.
Crossing the highway in front of Azraq Refugee Camp has proven dangerous before. In the past two years, at least four refugees died and eight others were seriously injured in traffic accidents there. UNHCR has reached out to the authorities to increase the safety of pedestrians in the area. The Agency is also working with the refugee community to raise awareness about the risk of crossing the road there.
