JORDAN | UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, received a US$1 million flexible funding grant from the Republic of Korea. This important contribution will play a vital role in supporting UNHCR’s efforts to provide crucial services and assistance, including cash for the most vulnerable refugees, throughout the remainder of 2023.
This support from the Republic of Korea helps address the needs of refugees in Jordan, a country that has been unwavering in its commitment to providing safety and protection to displaced populations. The flexible nature of this grant allows UNHCR to allocate resources where they are most urgently required, ensuring a comprehensive and adaptable response to the needs of refugees and host communities.
“This timely contribution is a testament to Korea’s commitment to the protection of refugees and comes at a critical time, when the refugee response in Jordan is facing challenges in sustaining their programmes”, said Dominik Bartsch, UNHCR Representative to Jordan. “We particularly welcome that this funding is flexible so that we can address the most pressing needs and have a lasting impact.”
“The Jordanian government deserves appreciation for hosting a huge number of refugees for a long time. I hope that Korea’s contribution will help the refugees alleviate their burdens in their daily lives”, said his Excellency Dong-gi Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, highlighting the significance of this partnership.
This funding will be directed towards a range of critical initiatives, such as healthcare, protection services, and cash assistance for basic needs. Thanks to the Republic of Korea, UNHCR can continue to contribute to a refugee response that upholds and respects the rights and dignity of every individual, including refugees.
