Amman, 07 June – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, expresses profound sadness and grief over the tragic death of eight Syrian refugees and one Jordanian citizen in a road traffic accident that occurred yesterday, Tuesday 6 June, in Mafraq. Several others sustained injuries.
UNHCR is working closely with the local authorities to provide immediate support to the families of the deceased and the injured individuals. Medical care and necessary assistance have immediately been mobilized to address their urgent needs. Additionally, UNHCR is coordinating efforts to provide counseling and psychosocial support to those affected, recognizing the emotional toll this incident has taken on survivors and their communities.
UNHCR extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. We stand in solidarity with the affected refugees and local community, offering our full support and assistance.
