The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, lands in Tehran today on a 3-day mission to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He is scheduled to meet with government counterparts to advocate for access to safety for newly arriving asylum-seekers from Afghanistan, as well as to discuss additional support needed to help Iran maintain its generous refugee-inclusive services.
The High Commissioner will also meet refugees who had previously fled to Iran, to better understand their growing needs and vulnerabilities, and will furthermore engage with donors and partners to explore ways to increase support for Iran’s humanitarian efforts.
This is High Commissioner Grandi’s third visit to Iran, one of the world’s largest refugee-hosting countries.
