World Refugee Day 2002: Saudi Arabia
In coordination with the Ministry of Interior, UNHCR organised an exhibition of posters chronicling its 50-year history from 10 to 12 June at Naif Arab Academy for Security Studies in Riyadh. The exhibition was also viewed by a large number of outside visitors who attended the academy's grand annual graduation ceremony.
The Defense Ministry commemorated the occasion with a film on Iraqi refugees at Rafha refugee camp.
Under the joint sponsorship of the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh and King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and
Archives, UNHCR organised a photo and poster exhibition comprising 50 images depicting UNHCR's history, activities and accomplishments with a special focus on refugee women and children. The exhibit was held at the National Museum in Riyadh. The Saudi Red Crescent Society participated in the exhibition with a display of posters and placards showing their relief activities.
The event was attended by high-ranking government officials and representatives from the civil society. It attracted huge number of other visitors, who also received UNHCR print materials.
The publicity was made through the museum's specialised publications and news bulletins and was well covered by the local media.
