World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Mexico

UNHCR and the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City launched an essay contest earlier this year for high school students. More than 330 students submitted essays on the theme, "The unheard voices of refugee children." On 20 June, an awards ceremony took place at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.

A WRD ceremony was held at a migration holding centre in the southern Mexican border city of Tapachula. The entertainment included dance performances by three regional groups and a musical by the Language University.
