World Refugee Day is marked every year on June 20 to recognize and applaud the contribution of forcibly displaced people throughout the world.
It is an international day the United Nations had dedicated to celebrate the courage and resilience of these people who have endured enormous suffering without losing hope, and often find the strength to overcome despair. They deserve our respect, encouragement, and support so that they can achieve what most of us take for granted – education, a place to live, a job, being part of a community. World Refugee Day is a call to stand with them and each do our part. In doing so, we demonstrate that we stand for inclusion, respect, tolerance, and diversity. We can only benefit, both as individuals and as a global society, if we learn to live with and respect people who are different from us.
