High Commissioner's trip to East Africa
High Commissioner Ruud Lubbers on Monday starts a 10-day mission to four countries in the Horn and Great Lakes regions of Africa. His mission takes him to Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Ethiopia. While in the region, Mr. Lubbers will review the situation of Somali refugees in camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. He will also visit refugee camps in Tanzania to look at the situation of Burundian refugees in that country. Mr. Lubbers expects to meet with several heads of state and other senior officials in the region. In Kenya, the High Commissioner will join other executive heads of UN agencies for an annual meeting of the UN Administrative Committee on Co-ordination (ACC).
