Conflict and persecution caused global forced displacement to escalate again in 2016, reaching the highest level ever recorded.
UNHCR’s annual Global Trends Report said 65.6 million people were displaced at the end of 2016, some 300,000 more than a year earlier. Over 10 million people were newly displaced during the course of the year.
