Pakistan: Afghans moved to refugee village
UNHCR has begun to move thousands of Afghan refugees who fled to Pakistan to escape the intensified fighting in their homeland to a refugee village, where we can provide them with shelter, food and medicine.
More than 16,200 refugees are encamped at a makeshift site in Jalozai, near Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province, which borders Afghanistan.
The first group of 3,500 is being transferred to the New Shamshatoo camp on the outskirts of Peshawar, which has adequate sanitation, water and health facilities, today. The whole exercise is expected to be completed in three days.
