United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
There are currently, in 2022, 231,597 refugees under UNHCR’s mandate in the United Kingdom, as well as 127,421 pending asylum seeker cases and 5483 stateless persons.
The UNHCR office in the UK works to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless persons through providing guidance, training and support to the authorities and others. UNHCR UK advocates on behalf of refugees, stateless persons and internally displaced persons globally.
The office communicates with the general public to provide information on persons of concern in the UK and elsewhere to foster a balanced debate and inspire inclusiveness and empathy. We also provide, in some instances, advice to individual refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons and people working on their behalf but don't provide legal advice or financial support. We can also not represent individuals regarding any applications for 'Leave to Remain' in the UK.
