Voices of stateless: Nusret’s story – Montenegro

“You’re a shadow here… Just a shadow. You pass by and no one sees you.
You have no rights. Like a man living normally, just walking and working, and all of a sudden he loses a leg. And then, he is disabled. This is what this situation has done to me.”

Nusret Hodžić was born in 1965 in Peć, Kosovo, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He was living in Montenegro for 15 years as a Serbian citizen without problems until the day his nationality was revoked. That day, they took away much more than just his Serbian ID.
