As a result of a 2013 Constitutional Court ruling, tens of thousands of Dominicans, the vast majority of Haitian descent, were stripped of their nationality and were left stateless. In 2014, a special law was passed to address the consequences of the Court ruling.
As a result, thousands have been able to re-acquire their Dominican nationality, but many others remain stateless.
- For the photo of boy with blue t-shirt-overlay on photo: This is an excellent baseball player. He has had several opportunities which he would have liked. But he doesn’t have an identity document. This is very unfortunate for him. (Dageuri, age unknown). © UNHCR
