UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in cooperation with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has launched a pilot programme on road safety for refugees and other beneficiaries of international protection in Greece. The programme will give the opportunity to thirty (30) refugee men and women to participate in road safety seminars and driving lessons, preparing them to sit the national driving license exams in Greece. Relevant tools and methodology will be also developed, with a view to reflect good practices and inform future similar projects.
Successful participants will be eventually linked to specific related job openings through the ADAMA Integration Center, operated by CRS and Caritas Hellas, with the support of UNHCR. In this way, the programme will ensure their skills are utilized and linked with livelihoods opportunities, supporting them to enter the workforce, contribute to the local economy and ultimately to become self-reliant.
The road safety programme is developed in close consultation with the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, within the context of Greece’s National Integration Strategy and in line with the objectives of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry and UNHCR in October 2021.
Refugees, other beneficiaries of international protection including refugees from Ukraine holding Temporary Protection status are all eligible to participate in the pilot project.
Interested participants can complete this form, by Friday 10th of June.
