UNHCR launches new campaign with stories of people who came closer and got to know each other better
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launches a new media campaign, titled «ΠλησιάΖουμε – Ζούμε Μαζί» (“We come closer together – We Live Together”), about stories of people who met in Greece, came closer and walked hand-in-hand the path of integration.
“This is Reza, the owner of my favourite restaurant and my friend,” says Irini in disarming simplicity about what she thinks of Reza from Afghanistan. Their friendship is a long-lasting one.
The website will be updated frequently with new material, while the goal is to host even more stories that the readers and members of the public will share with UNHCR.
“During a period that Europe is experiencing one of the fastest growing refugee crises after World War II, due to the situation in Ukraine; at a juncture which is a tragic reminder of what it means to lose everything in an instant, UNHCR’s campaign “PlisiaZoume” gives voice to the people who, irrespective of nationality, religion, or gender, are walking together the path of life, guided by the values of compassion, solidarity and dignity ,” says Maria Clara Martin, UNHCR Representative in Greece.
The campaign wishes to highlight the common needs and values that we all share when we come closer and get to know each other better. It aims to stress how much we can all benefit when our societies are truly inclusive and invest in the integration of people who are trying to build their lives in Greece.
“In our line of work, we see on a daily basis how much it means for a refugee child to hear words of encouragement and support from her teacher. How important it is for a business to make the most of the know-how and talents available in the community, including the skills of refugees. What it means for somebody to be greeted every morning by his neighbour or to share a lunch with the uprooted family living next door,” concludes Mrs. Martin.
UNHCR invites you to read and share the stories of Reza and Irini, Chalil and Stavros, Morty and Elena, Alia and Dionyssis, Mrs. Maria and Maria, Boye and Elina, Ali and Jeanette, Keita and Maria, little Farhad and Dimitris. Use the hashtag #plisiaZoume and please also share your own stories of coexistence and friendship through www.PlisiaZoume.gr.
