UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi will conduct his third official visit to Greece on 27 and 28 November 2019.
The High Commissioner will visit Lesvos island and Athens and is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other members of his Cabinet. He will also address two Committees of the Hellenic Parliament, meet with mayors participating in the ESTIA accommodation programme, diplomatic missions and other UN agencies, representatives of the civil society and others involved in the humanitarian effort.
On Lesvos on 27 November, the High Commissioner will see first-hand the living conditions for asylum seekers and refugees and will discuss the challenges authorities and civil society are facing in the refugee response. Grandi will also visit a non-formal education centre operated by UNHCR partner METAdrasi before leaving for Athens.
The High Commissioner will be accompanied by UNHCR’s Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe, Pascale Moreau.
At the end of his visit, Grandi is scheduled to hold a Press Conference on Thursday, 28 November at 16.15 p.m. at the Royal Olympic Hotel (28 Athanasiou Diakou str., Conference Room 1).
