UNHCR launched an Egyptian version of the regional Ramadan Campaign “Every Gift Counts” to support the most vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeker families throughout the Arab world during the month of Ramadan.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launched an Egyptian version of the regional Ramadan Campaign “Every Gift Counts” with the participation of actor Eyad Nassar along with other celebrities and high-profile supporters. The campaign aims at supporting the most vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeker families throughout the Arab world during the month of Ramadan.
More than 80% of refugees and internally displaced people around the world live in low and middle-income countries, and while millions of families come together to share the blessings and values of the holy month, thousands of orphans, widows, and elderly people spend it in less joyful conditions, as their inability to secure their basic needs is aggravated by the global economic conditions and soaring inflation.
UNHCR collaborates with individuals and institutions in the region to support refugees and asylum-seekers, as they spend the blessed month of Ramadan away from home, family and loved ones. This year, UNHCR aims to support 100,000 refugee families through donations and Zakat, to enable the most vulnerable refugee families to cover their food, shelter and medical needs.
UNHCR allocates 100% of Zakat funds to the most vulnerable refugee and displaced families, especially in hard-to-reach areas. That means that UNHCR does not deduct any administrative fees from Zakat funds on an exceptional basis, and instead covers those expenses from other sources of funding. In addition, UNHCR fully dedicates all Zakat funds to benefit eligible families through zakat compliant cash and in-kind assistance programmes, which complement other humanitarian programs provided by UNHCR.
