On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, UNHCR joins forces with UNDP and the UN family in Cyprus to highlight though cinematography and documentaries some of the greatest challenges faced by women today in Cyprus and globally.
On Wednesday 9 March at 6.00 pm at the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia, UNHCR will introduce “The long Journey”, a 15 minute documentary, on the story of a young Syrian family set out on a perilous journey to reach safety in northern Europe.
After the screening, three refugee women – from Syria, Cameroon and Somalia – who have sought sanctuary in Cyprus will share their own stories; stories of sorrow, courage and resilience.
Running from 7th to 12th March at the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia and at Larnaca’s House of Arts and Literature and Famagusta’s Youth Centre, the 2016 Women’s Film Week will bring to the public 14 films and real stories of women from around the world.
