Five refugee documentaries will be running from Monday 13 to Thursday 16 June, at the Book Club “Yfantourgeio”, bringing to you the real stories of refugees around the world.
The film week is organised on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, marked every year on June 20. World Refugee Day provides the key moment for UNHCR and partners to commemorate worldwide the strength, courage and resilience of millions of refugees and to communicate with the world about who refugees are and why they need our protection.
The event will kick off on Monday, 13 June with the screening of the French film “School of Babel” at 20.00.
On Tuesday, 14 June, two films will be screened: at 19.30 the German film “Land in Sicht” and at 21.15 the British film “A Syrian Love Story”.
On Wednesday, 15 June, the documentary “Waves of Hope” will be screened at 20.00 and will be introduced by its producer, the journalist Constantinos Constantinou.
On Thursday, at 20.30, the event will close with the Swedish film “Nice People”.
All movies will be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Entrance to all films is free!
The event was made possible thanks to the support of the Book Club “Yfantourgeio” which offered its venue for the screening and to Embassies and Cultural Institutions in Cyprus who provided us the films.
The UNHCR Representation in Cyprus and partners will be marking the WRD with a number of special events and activities. Other than the refugee film festival, a street festival will take place at Faneromeni square on 15 June and a refugee human library on 16 June at the Book Club “Yfantourgeio”.
