Pakistani quake victims heading for home after long winter in temporary camps
5 May 2006 Some 100,000 people displaced by last October's devastating Pakistan earthquake have left temporary camps and returned to their towns, villages and properties over the past month as the emergency phase of the massive relief operation begins to wind down. A total of 57 camps have been closed, while another 99 remain open with about 55,000 people yet to go home. -

'Sewing' the seeds for return after Pakistan quake
25 Apr 2006 The UN refugee agency is funding vocational training in some earthquake relief camps to increase survivors' self-reliance after they return to their villages. Women are learning sewing and embroidery while men are training in electrical works, plumbing, carpentry and masonry with a view to reconstruction. -
Chamberlin completes Pakistan visit with registration deal for Afghans

They are now engaged in rehabilitating empty camp sites to their previous condition, as well as continuing to upgrade camp conditions for those who still remain.
