The Bureau of Continuing Professional Development (BCPD Ltd.) of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), in cooperation with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is granting refugee students from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan free access to its courses on financial literacy. Part of the Life Skills Programme “Well Being”, specialists will teach refugee students, who were selected in a competitive selection process, basics of financial literacy, the setting and achieving of objectives, effective communication and presentation skills and other life skills.
In June 2022, representatives of BCPD Ltd. held a master class for refugee youth on early career planning and developing life skills. Participants of the master class got acquainted with useful resources for determining their future profession.
“It was especially interesting to learn about the structure and principles of writing motivational letters. I am also glad to get access to educational courses from BCPD. I am sure the knowledge I learned will help me in my studies and choice of profession,” said Ali Didar, a 9th-grade student.
The inclusion of refugee children and youth in the educational process allows them to unlock their potential so that they can contribute to the development of their communities in the future. Enhancing educational opportunities for refugees is a goal of the Global Compact on Refugees and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Also in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, UNHCR is working with partners to promote the creation of favorable conditions and development of new approaches to improve refugees’ access to inclusive and quality education.
As of 1 January 2022, 673 refugees and asylum seekers are living in Kazakhstan and 1003 in Kyrgyzstan. Most of them have been living in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan for a long time.
