On 12 August, UN Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador, independent musician Manizha Sangin took part in the World Youth Rights Conference in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Manizha, whose family was forced to move from Tajikistan to Russia due to the civil war, knows from her own experience how difficult it is to start life from scratch. She gave an inspiring speech in which she emphasized that the support of states in matters of forced displacement is extremely important and noted that refugees and stateless persons can contribute to the development of the host community in the future if they are helped in difficult times.
The World Youth Rights Conference was held in a hybrid format on 12 and 13 August. It examined the issues of youth participation in the development of their countries in the context of the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable groups of the population.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, Director of the Bureau of the International Organization addressed a welcoming speech on the first day of the conference, which began this morning in Tashkent. Labor (ILO) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Olga Kulaeva and many other representatives of international organizations and government agencies.
