Valeria Lentini

UNHCR Economist

Valeria Lentini is the Economist for UNHCR’s Operation in Costa Rica. She holds a A Ph.D. and Masters in Economics from the University of Zaragoza and the University of Sussex. She has over two decades of experience as a project manager, lead researcher, and senior policy advisor for think tanks (such as J-Pal LAC and the State of the Nation), academia, government, international organizations, and the private sector. Her research topics and most recent publications focus on inequality, labour markets, education, poverty, and social protection, mainly in Latin American and OECD countries.

Currently, Valeria is also an academic fellow at the University of Costa Rica’s School of Economics. She is involved with ongoing research projects and impact evaluations on inclusion in forcibly displaced settings through unconditional transfers (with the IPA and J-PAL Displaced Livelihoods Initiative grant), the provision of health insurance in Costa Rica, and studies on the effects of refugees and migrants on labour markets in Chile and Costa Rica.
