Sajjad Malik
UNHCR Director, Division of Resilience and Solutions
Sajjad Malik is the Director for the Division of Resilience and Solutions at UNHCR. Before taking up his current function in February 2020, he was UNHCR’s Representative in Damascus, Syria from August 2015 to February 2019. After which he served as the Special Adviser to the Executive Office in Geneva, Switzerland. Furthermore, Mr. Malik has previously served as Head of the Organizational Development & Management Service and Chief of the Operational Solutions & Transitions at UNHCR Headquarters Geneva.
The majority of his UNHCR career, for over 30 years, has been spent in the field in various capacities, notably in Africa. He has worked in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Pakistan, Syria and at UNHCR in Geneva. He has also extensively covered emergencies in the East and Horn of Africa, Great Lakes region, and West Africa. He also served briefly with UNDP and UNMIS in Sudan. Mr. Malik holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and an Executive Master’s Degree in International Negotiation and Policy Making.
