Rakesh Gupta Nichanametla Ramasubbaiah
UNHCR Economist
Rakesh Gupta Nichanametla Ramasubbaiah is a Senior Development Officer with UNHCR, working for the Mauritania Operation. He has also been a Policy Officer in Geneva and an Economist in Kigali with UNHCR. Previously, he worked at the World Bank’s Development Research Group and Poverty Global Practice, where he spent five years focusing on welfare measurements, intergenerational economic mobility, forced displacement, distributional impacts and labor economics. Prior to his time in Washington, D.C., he was a UNICEF Research Fellow in Uganda, and contributed to policies and strategies on access to services, social sectors budgeting and public spending efficiency. Earlier work included assignments with the World Bank, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNESCAP, OECD and IPA. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics from Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-Ulm) and Paris School of Economics, and a Master in Applied Mathematics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He speaks six languages and has lived in nine different countries.
