Rakesh Gupta Nichanametla Ramasubbaiah

UNHCR Economist

Rakesh Gupta Nichanametla Ramasubbaiah is an Economist with UNHCR, working for the Rwanda Operation. Previously, he worked at the World Bank’s Development Research Group and Poverty Global Practice, where he spent the last five years focusing on welfare measurements, intergenerational economic mobility, forced displacement, distributional impacts and labor economics. Prior to his time in Washington DC, he was a UNICEF Research Fellow in Uganda, and contributed to policies and strategies on access to services, social sectors budgeting and public spending efficiency. Earlier work includes assignments with UNHCR, UNICEF, UNESCAP, OECD and IPA. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics from Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-Ulm) and Paris School of Economics, and a Master in Applied Mathematics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He speaks six languages and has lived in nine different countries.
