Saeid

Saeid Safavi had a prosperous business in Iran and a happy life. After refusing to work for the Iranian Government, he fled and sought asylum from Australia by sea in 2001. His brother was arrested and jailed six months after Saeid fled.

Saeid spent two years in mandatory immigration detention before being recognised as a refugee, and rebuilding his life in Port Pirie, South Australia.

Saeid “absolutely loves” his new town and community. He is a proud café owner, employing 25 people, and has won various barista and small business awards. Café Safavi has become a favourite stop-off for visitors to the region, and the number 1 restaurant in town on TripAdvisor.
