During the ceremony in Kilueka, the High Commissioner's World Refugee Day message was read out, and refugees showed their talents through poems, dancing, and crafts.
A decoration ceremony was held to thank the DRC government and village chiefs for hosting Angolan refugees for the past 27 years. They received blue UNHCR pins and certificates of gratitude. The Minister of Interior, the Governor of the Bas-Congo Province, the Governor of Kimpese and the Archbishop of Kisantu received both a pin and a certificate each. Fourteen others representing the local administration and village chiefs were decorated with the pins.
Some 120 local villagers and Angolan refugees competed in an 18-km marathon race from Likuala to Kilueka in Bas-Congo Region. The best 20 runners received non-food relief items as prizes.
