Foundation Partners
UNHCR relies almost exclusively on voluntary contributions to cover the costs of its operations. This includes the financial support of hundreds of generous non-profit organizations that are committed to helping UNHCR build safe and thriving communities for forcibly uprooted populations.
Building on a long history of engagement with philanthropic institutions, UNHCR develops multi-year partnerships with major foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Nations Foundation and the Nike Foundation.
Thanks to their support, UNHCR provides refugees with the means to durably improve their livelihoods - through education and employment opportunities, microfinance, access to technology and reliable infrastructure.
Our work with charitable foundations is complemented by sports partnerships developed by UNHCR with major sports federations, organizations and clubs around the world, including the International Olympic Committee, the National Basketball Association and FC Barcelona (UNHCR also has ties with the FC Barcelona Foundation). Through these partnerships, thousands of refugee children are discovering the joy of sport while accessing new education opportunities.
Partnerships are also developed through participation in multi-stakeholder platforms and public-private initiatives such as the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative.
