Refugee agency launches final phase of repatriation for Angolans in DRC
13 Oct 2006 The UN refugee agency on Friday launched the final phase of its repatriation operation for Angolan refugees in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by starting to return home more than 20,000 Angolan refugees and their dependants from the Bas Congo region. When this phase is completed, it will mark the end of UNHCR's four-year repatriation programme for Angolan refugees. -
UNHCR starts major relocation of Angolan refugees in Zambia

First repatriation of Liberians from opposition-held northern Côte d'Ivoire
15 Sep 2006 The UNHCR this week began for the first time repatriating Liberian refugees from areas of Côte d'Ivoire under the control of opposition forces. The first group of 198 refugees left from the town of Danané in western Côte d'Ivoire and later crossed the Nihon River, which separates the two countries. -
Last voluntary repatriation convoy for Liberians from two Guinea camps
4 Sep 2006 UNHCR has run a final voluntary repatriation convoy for Liberian refugees at Guinea's Kountaya and Télikoro refugee camps and the facilities will be formally closed later this month after the remaining refugees have been relocated to other camps. Kountaya was once home to thousands of Liberian refugees. -

Angolan repatriation from Zambia resumes for final year
15 Aug 2006 The voluntary repatriation of Angolan refugees from Zambia resumed on Tuesday, providing them with a final chance to return with UNHCR help. The first group of 45 refugees went by road from Meheba Refugee Settlement to Ndola airport. After the four-hour drive they were airlifted to Angola. -

28 Jul 2006 A group of 298 Liberian refugees have set sail for home from Ghana aboard a chartered passenger vessel. The Gambia-registered Brenda Corlett set sail from the port of Tema on Thursday night and was expected to take four days to reach the Liberian capital, Monrovia. -
More and more Liberians returning home from Guinea
20 Jul 2006 Liberian refugees are returning home from Guinea in increasing numbers this year. A convoy last week carried 761 refugees across the border - the biggest convoy since UNHCR launched a voluntary repatriation programme in 2004. Some 17,500 refugees have returned home from Guinea this year.
