2 Jan 2005 A giant Antonov 124 cargo plane loaded with 100 tonnes of urgent relief supplies leaves Denmark to spearhead a massive UNHCR airlift operation aimed at providing vital aid to 100,000 people in Indonesia's tsunami-battered Aceh province. The three-day airlift operation will deliver 400 tonnes of aid from UNHCR stockpiles in Denmark and Dubai. On the ground, meanwhile, UNHCR's logistics and supply teams set up advance bases in northern Sumatra, while the refugee agency continues round-the-clock relief operations in Sri Lanka. -
UNHCR emergency airlift for Aceh set for takeoff
1 Jan 2005 A UN refugee agency emergency airlift operation was set to get off the ground Sunday from Denmark and Dubai, carrying 400 tonnes of urgent aid to Indonesia's disaster-razed province of Aceh. A 14-member emergency team of UNHCR specialists is also being deployed to Aceh as part of a joint UN response to the disaster. -

Solutions found for East Timor's separated children
14 Dec 2004 After a long search, solutions have been found for nearly 4,500 children separated from their families during the upheaval in East Timor in 1999. Most have either been reunited with their families or will continue to stay with their caregivers in Timor-Leste and Indonesia. The two countries have signed an agreement on how to help the remaining 107 children and on how future cases will be managed. -
Vietnamese in Cambodia torn between going on exile and returning home
11 Nov 2004 A new group of Vietnamese asylum seekers has arrived in Phnom Penh while a handful of recent arrivals say they wish to return home in Viet Nam's Central Highlands. Some of Vietnamese, called Montagnards, say they are seeking UNHCR's assistance in retrieving their property but the refugee agency says it does not have the authority to intervene in land disputes in Viet Nam. -
Misled Montagnards in Cambodia say no to resettlement
5 Nov 2004 Many Vietnamese Montagnards have crossed into Cambodia following false rumours that the UN can help them get back their confiscated land. When told that UNHCR cannot resolve their land problems, the asylum seekers have said they don't want to be resettled to a third country.
