Almost 500 Congolese refugees ferried home across Africa's longest lake
7 Jul 2006 A UNHCR-chartered ferry carrying 488 Congolese refugees crossed Lake Tanganyika from Tanzania and docked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. But Friday's voyage will be the last organised by UNHCR before presidential and parliamentary elections due at the end of the month. -

New partnership to bring better health to Africa's refugees
24 Feb 2006 UNHCR is teaming up with the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to deliver the latest nursing knowledge and training to health professionals working with refugees in Africa. The Nursing Library Project is delivering 50 ICN/MSD Nursing Libraries for Refugee Health to health care workers in Tanzania and Zambia, which together host some 770,000 refugees. -
