Abused woman granted refugee status in Hungary
1 Nov 2005 Hungary has granted asylum to a woman who was repeatedly raped and beaten by her husband for 12 years, then divorced and thrown out to live as an outcast for many more years, without any possibility of protection by the state. Her recognition as a refugee is a sign that asylum is increasingly granted to individuals persecuted because of their gender.
