Some, though, are choosing to stay. Whatever their decision, Zambia, home to UNHCR's oldest refugee camp in Africa, might soon be able to consider its days as a host to refugees as - for the moment at least - almost over. -
UNHCR and Angola release studies on key needs in areas of refugee return

On Tuesday, the UN refugee agency and the Angolan government released detailed profiles of areas with the highest percentage of former refugees, which will be used as a guide for their successful reintegration. -

New partnership to bring better health to Africa's refugees
24 Feb 2006 UNHCR is teaming up with the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to deliver the latest nursing knowledge and training to health professionals working with refugees in Africa. The Nursing Library Project is delivering 50 ICN/MSD Nursing Libraries for Refugee Health to health care workers in Tanzania and Zambia, which together host some 770,000 refugees. -
Micro-credit scheme gives refugees in Angola chance to end dependency
5 Jan 2006 Henri, a Congolese refugee living in Angola since 1978, is one of the first to benefit from a UNHCR-funded small-loan programme to boost his business and break the chain of dependency that has affected the majority of the 14,000 refugees in the country. After seeing the impact on people like Henri, more refugees are becoming interested in the scheme.
