The Tahir Foundation
The Tahir Foundation
To give is to gain; it is my belief, as it is in all religions, that we do not own our wealth – we only manage it, and it is up to us to be good managers.
About the partnership
Since: 2016
Locations: Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia
Dr Tahir, founder of the Tahir Foundation, believes that providing a more dignified life to underprivileged people is his life’s calling. He is committed to helping UNHCR deliver life-saving services to refugees and displaced people around the world, but is mainly focused on supporting Palestinian refugees (through UNRWA) and Syrian refugees by supporting UNHCR’s cash assistance programme to Syrian refugees mainly in Jordan and more recently, Lebanon.
The Tahir Foundation first worked with UNHCR in 2016 to support our Nobody Left Outside global campaign, which aims to provide shelter for at least 2 million of the world’s most vulnerable refugees.
To date, the Tahir Foundation has donated more than US$4.5 million to support 37,500 refugee families in Jordan and Lebanon.
Impact at a glance
- 37,500 refugee families in Jordan and Lebanon supported
- 2 visits per year to Jordan’s Azraq refugee camp from Dr Tahir as part of his focus on helping Syrian refugees
- $ assistance programmes supported for Syrian refugee families in Jordan – but once it is safe for Syrians to return to Syria the Tahir Foundation will look to find more durable solutions
